How can you help?

UPDATE: Thank you to the hundreds of potential donors for your generous donation offers! Donation wise, we are in shortage and have a need only for laptops, which we have in short supply but are in high demand from our students. As such, computer-wise, we are only accepting donations of laptops that are 3 years old or newer, at this time. Educational materials and financial donations are accepted as well. However, for your other items, I suggest that you consider donating to the Alameda County Computer Resource Center (http://www.accrc.org) which does a wonderful service to the community as well. Thanks again for your generosity!Regards,Ankur Luthra, CL4K ChairmanFebruary 17, 2008CL4K accepts donations of various forms, listed in order of the need of students:
Laptop computers. We accept functional laptops that were high end about 3 years ago or newer.

Educational materials, such as books pertaining to computer programming.

Financial donations (personal checks, money orders, or cashier's checks only; cash not accepted for the protection of the donor) All donated items go directly to the children, with the exception that computers may first be fixed if needed. Also, remember that no CL4K member is allowed to take salary, as dictated in the firm's bylaws. All financial donations are used to help fund the purchasing of computers for the students.

Also, we emphasize that we cannot accept most damaged items (or items where you may be unsure of the functionality). The reason is simple: non-working items must be disposed of, and local garbage companies charge $10-15 to take away a computer and $15-20 to take away a monitor, for example. Since all funds are used to buy items for underprivileged students, losing money to dispose of malfunctioning items is wasteful and hurts our mission.
